Don't mess with this Squirrel while it's gathering its winter stash!
This was one of the funniest things I have seen. The duck wandered over to see what the squirrel was doing. The squirrel looked up, saw the duck and took off after him. The duck was terrified and the squirrel was extremely proud of it self. You can see part of what the squirrel was protecting... still in its mouth. I'm not sure what it was, we were afraid it might go after us next! My daughter had her camera with her and was quick thinking enough to get this shot just as the chase began!

Cute photo, Pam! That's one feisty squirrel....
Jo
Pam, That is a pretty good size Squirrel. It almost looks like a ground hog. Run duck, run!
I guess timing and preparedness is everything, congrats on your daughters camera skills its a great shot. I wonder what that squirrel is feeding on?
I think the duck had him all the time. Whos afraid of a little rodent.

Pam - I have seen a lot of squirrels in my days growing up in the Midwest and either that is a very huge squirrel or a small Beaver. What ever it may be your daughter took a great action shot. Have a wonderful weekend.
Pam, squirrels are nutsy---yesterday I was early for my inspection and I sat in the car watching a squirrel chase two crows around the yard. He would chase one til it took off and then go after the other.
Pam, Cute photo! I have seen squirrels do some nutty things but never chase a duck or as Charles said a crow... As Bubba would say, "They ain't wrapped too tight..."
Pam, that's a great shot! We have some aggressive squirrels (and chipmunks) in our yard. My Westie has no fear of them and scratches at the door trying to get at them!
Michael,I love the way Bubba puts things! From close observation.. I would have to agree with you.. "They aint wrapped to tight"...
Robert & Jimmy: We grow them healthy here in the Great Northwest.... You should see the size of our Beavers. Now that will scare ya!!
EDIT: Ok, it was just brought to my attention... For you sickos out there; a Beaver is a furry 4 (four) legged animal with big teeth and and a large flat tail (It builds Dams on Rivers). OK!!!
James, I'm not sure, could have been something left over from a golfers lunch!
very cute photo Pam. Tell your daughter she did excellent work. Oh and I added pictures of my lake this morning.
Great action shot. We raised a squirrel found as an infant after Huricane Charlie in 2004. He was under a palm tree that had fallen down. We fed him formula with a dropper and we became his personal "trees" as he grew. I would take him to the grocery store in my pocket when he was a baby. We released him when he was 3 months old. He was becoming a bit frisky and it was time for him to go. We all have very fond memories of Charlie especially seeing him peel a grape and eat it in about 30 seconds!
Sharon, what a darling story. They are so cute when they are babies... Just like children, when they start growing up you can't take your eyes off them.. We rased an injured newborn Antelope whose mother was killed. She grew thinking she was one of the dogs. When she got bigger... it wasn't very cute when she would jump the fence and try to get into the car when we would come home. She was just doing what the dogs did!! However, the dogs do allot less damage.
